His public-history work has included radio programs, newspaper features, museum collaboration, and historical consultancy. He wrote and presented a BBC Tees series with Diane Youdale about Teesside’s less familiar history and contributed material for the First World War centenary. His Middlesbrough Football Club match-program work included articles for remembrance occasions. A long-running interest in visual records connects these activities with books that use archive photographs, modern comparisons, and memorabilia to document change.
Menzies’s regional bibliography extends well beyond sport. The histories below examine the built environment and wartime society as well as an individual player’s career. His work with the Dorman Museum connects local testimony and images with an account of Middlesbrough during the First World War, while his photographic books compare familiar locations at different moments.
