Paul Domowitch is an American football journalist and author who covered the Philadelphia Eagles and the NFL for nearly forty years at the Philadelphia Daily News and Philadelphia Inquirer. Known to readers as Domo, he reported on the league from 1982 until his newspaper retirement in 2021. His work also included the Philadelphia Stars of the United States Football League, an experience that later informed his biography of linebacker Sam Mills.
A 1977 graduate of Wilkes University, Domowitch began his professional career in Midland, Texas, after finding that newspapers closer to home required experience. He became a Pro Football Hall of Fame selector in 2002. His books include a collaboration with longtime Eagles executive Leo Carlin and a biography following Mills through opportunities that conventional judgments about his size had repeatedly denied him.

Domowitch’s newspaper career spanned major changes in Philadelphia football and the wider NFL. His retirement reflections included memories of players, coaches, agents, and executives, as well as reporting on the Eagles’ Super Bowl victory over New England. After leaving the newspapers, he continued writing for The 33rd Team and participated in radio and podcast work. A Wilkes University profile described that transition as an opportunity to cover the whole league while spending more time with his family.
His books developed from long reporting relationships. The Carlin memoir took more than a decade to reach publication, while the Mills biography drew on knowledge of both the USFL and the NFL. These different vantage points extend his coverage beyond game reports: one follows a business executive who served successive owners, and the other follows a player whose route into professional football required an alternative league.

A Bird's-Eye View: My Mostly Wonderful, Always Unforgettable Half-Century with the Philadelphia Eagles: Leo Carlin, writing with Domowitch, recalls more than half a century working for the Philadelphia Eagles. His experiences in ticketing and business operations reveal the organization behind the team, through changes of ownership, coaching, and competitive fortune. The memoir follows a career beginning in 1960 and extending toward a Super Bowl celebration, connecting personal recollection with the growth of professional football. Published in 2020.
Carlin served through five ownership groups and fourteen head coaches, providing continuity during considerable organizational change. His account combines difficult periods and everyday mishaps with the moments supporters remember most clearly. The perspective comes from someone responsible for the experience of attending games and the practical business of running a franchise, offering a view of football that is distinct from a player’s or coach’s memoir.
Just Give Me a Chance to Fail: The Life of NFL Hall of Fame Linebacker Sam Mills: Domowitch traces Sam Mills’s progress from an overlooked young player to a Hall of Fame linebacker. Repeated doubts about his height limited opportunities in high school, college, and the NFL before the USFL provided a breakthrough. The biography follows his success with the Stars, New Orleans Saints, and Carolina Panthers, examining the ability and determination behind an unconventional professional career. Published in 2026.
Mills became a central figure in the Saints’ Dome Patrol defense before helping establish the expansion Panthers. Domowitch places those achievements within the changing professional game and follows the relationships that enabled Mills to demonstrate his ability. His later illness and death form part of a life remembered in Carolina through a retired jersey and a statue, alongside the lasting influence of his example.
