The Raúl project involved more than three years of research, documentation, and interviews. Its range of contributors includes people who played with, coached, or covered the forward. The later Liverpool book uses a similarly broad set of voices, adding opponents and supporters to explain both a team’s development and its place in a city. Both books were published in Spanish and are discussed here under their original titles.
Andrés Medina’s background in radio and long interviews informs work that brings together multiple witnesses. The subjects are established figures, but the books widen their focus beyond a single person’s retrospective account. Club staff, teammates, journalists, and fans help document how careers and teams were experienced by others, connecting sporting decisions with the relationships through which they became significant.

Raúl, soy raulista: La biografía deportiva del gran capitán blanco: Andrés Medina examines Raúl’s soccer career through the recollections and assessments of teammates, coaches, executives, and journalists. The Spanish-language biography follows more than two decades of professional competition, placing the forward’s achievements within the teams and relationships surrounding him. A collective account considers both his playing qualities and the importance of his example as a leading figure in Spanish soccer. Published in 2021.
The book’s subtitle identifies its subject as a sporting biography of Real Madrid’s captain. Its method is deliberately collective: rather than depending only on the protagonist, Andrés Medina gathers judgments from different positions within the game. The resulting record combines memories of shared work with assessments of a long career. The scale of the research reflects the task of documenting a player whose significance extended across successive teams and generations of observers.
Spanish Liverpool: Cómo Rafa Benítez revolucionó la Premier League y abrió sus puertas al talento de La Liga: This Spanish-language history follows Liverpool under Rafael Benítez from 2004 to 2010, when Spanish coaches and players became influential at Anfield. Interviews with participants, opponents, journalists, and supporters connect the team’s development with life in the city. The 2005 Champions League final provides a central moment in a wider examination of six seasons and the people who shaped them. Published in 2025.
The full subtitle describes how Benítez changed the Premier League and opened it to talent from La Liga. The narrative begins with a club whose identity was already strongly established, then follows the arrival of a Spanish managerial and playing presence. Istanbul’s celebrated comeback against Milan stands within that larger process. Sporting achievement and personal experience are treated together, preserving what those years meant to the participants and the supporters watching them.
